Banner Health becomes full owner of Banner Network Colorado

GREELEY, CO - 05/03/2016

Mountain Shadows Medical Association, Inc. (MSMA) dba Banner Network Colorado, the non-profit corporation operated since 1994 by community physicians and Banner Health hospitals in Larimer and Weld counties, has moved forward with an ownership transition effective May 1 that makes the integrated provider network a fully owned Banner Health entity. Its new name is Banner Network Colorado, LLC.

The MSMA Board of Directors approved the ownership transition earlier this year after assessing the future needs and direction for the network as the health care market transitions from volume to value-based care. The board determined that full Banner ownership will create the opportunity for continued growth by providing the financial structure needed as the network moves into risk sharing agreements with payers.

“Mountain Shadows Medical Association and Banner Health have worked together for many years to provide high-value medical care to a growing number of members,” said Edward Norman, MD, president of the BNC board. “Both organizations have been closely aligned in striving for the ‘triple aim’ of improved access and outcomes at a more affordable cost. This new ownership model will enable the network to achieve an even higher level of population health management in Northern Colorado.”

The network, with more than 300 community health care providers, has developed several traditional and value-based arrangements with payers such as Aetna, Cigna, Humana and UnitedHealthcare.
